Teachers Needed For Arkansas
STRIVE
The Arkansas STRIVE program is
recruiting math, science, and computer teachers for
its 2008 summer professional development program.
Arkansas STRIVE is a statewide program that places science, math, and
computer teachers in research positions or on projects during the summer
with industry, government agencies, research laboratories, universities,
and nonprofit organizations. The purpose is for teachers to experience
how their disciplines are used by organizations and to learn how these
organizations conduct research, solve problems, or develop new products.
Teachers work full-time for eight weeks and as much like an employee of
the host organization as possible. We also present workshops on
inquiry-based and problem-based teaching and on computer data analysis to
the participants. In addition, we help teachers develop two inquiry-based
or problem-based lessons from their summer experiences.
The program runs from June
9 to August 1, 2008. Teachers receive a $4,500 stipend, 60
professional development hours, including 18 technology hours, and up to
6 graduate credits (optional). The application deadline is February 8,
2008.
Participants must be full-time teachers in a
middle, junior high, or senior high school in Arkansas. They also must be
certified in and primarily teach math, science, or computers/technology.
They must not have participated recently in STRIVE (2003-2007).
We will be sending application materials by
January 3, 2008 to math and science chairpersons at all middle schools,
junior high schools, and senior high schools in Arkansas. However, you
also can find information on STRIVE and application forms on our website (www.ualr.edu/strive).
You can apply quickly and easily by filling out our electronic application
form (applicatE.doc) on our website and returning it as an e-mail
attachment. You also can send an e-mail to me (jdwinter@ualr.edu)
and I will send information and the e-form back to you as attachments.
