Math and Science Investigator Program for Summer 08 (MSI'08)
The MSI’08 program will offer enriched activities for 9th, 10th, & 11th grade students in central Arkansas in mathematics and related fields of science. Each day will begin with a detailed study of a mathematical topic followed by hands-on activities to illustrate the concept. All sessions will be conducted by UCA professors holding PhD’s in mathematics, physics, or biology.
The projects include:
--• Mathematical modeling to predict the concentration of medication in the body.
--• Physics of lever systems: Muscles and body movements.
--• Musical acoustics: Harmonic motion, simple vibrating systems, and vibrations in musical instruments.
--• Mathematical modeling of rate of diffusion.
--• Mathematical simulations of water waves.
